Yes ... this is what the article is about...@Pascal

Yes ... this is what the article is about.

We use the twisted event loop to run the game logic itself, it would make no sense if it could not access the database (i.e. the django ORM) in the same process. We also run the webserver in the same process as the game server which means they both have access to the same database without needing to worry about caching or race conditions - this allows for easy integration of your game with its web presence.

You could run the web presence under some other stand-alone webserver if you wanted, by all means - there is just no real reason to do so for most use cases.

You are correct that Django database acccess is blocking of course. This is also discussed in the article.
.
GriatchGriatchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01430093554910807910noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8338260444057832583.post-85001736938776354802015-09-14T13:43:25.937+02:002015-09-14T13:43:25.937+02:00@Pascal
It's not a typo - it's really a T...@Pascal

It's not a typo - it's really a Twisted webserver. It must be since Django is a web framework and has no web server capabilities of its own (the simple django testserver does not count, it's not meant for production or security). So in the same way you could run django off an Apache web server, we start a Twisted web server as part of Evennia.
